Barrel Racing

- As a participating team, you and a partner will have the opportunity to PUSH or PULL your barrel racecar through our chicane course.
- You will get to compete head to head throughout the day in time trials and one-on-one races to see who runs away the grand prize!
- You will be competing for prizes, tickets to the Festival and the chance to be hailed as the Barrel Racing Champion.
- Your barrel race car can be made of any standard wooden barrel, including half barrels from the garden store.
- Your barrel race car must maintain the “integrity” of a barrel, meaning some of the shape.
- Your barrel race car needs some form of break.
- Your team name and barrel can be named after your business or organization.
- Minors must have parent’s signature on application.
- Barrel race cars to be delivered to race site between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
- ALL VEHICLES MUST BE INSPRECTED PRIOR TO RACE.
- TEAMS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND PRE-RACE SAFETY INSPECTION AND TESTING.
- A PERFORMANCE TEST OF STEERING, STOPPING AND TOWING WILL BE CONDUCTED 1 HOUR PRIOR TO THIS RACE.
- All race cars can choose their own race car number or accept one assigned to you. Number does not mean your order of racing.
- All team members must sign a liability form prior to racing. (Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification.)
- UNSAFE VEHICLES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AT DISCRETION OF RACE OFFICIALS.
- To help with traffic flow, pop-up tents or similar are restricted from the pit areas.
- Team members must be 18 years or older or have the signature of a parent or guardian.
- ALL BARREL RACE CARS must maintain the integrity of the barrel shape. Barrels cannot be disassembled, and wood used to make a race car that does not contain the BARREL SHAPE.
- Barrel embellishments such as wings and tails, or fender flares, cannot exceed 24″ on any side of the barrel.
- VEHICLES MUST BE CONSTRUCTED IN A SAFE, WORKMAN-LIKE MANNER AND MUST BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND THE RIGORS OF MULTIPLE RACE HEATS.
- Each vehicle must have a minimum of two wheels in contact with the track at all times during the race.
- Each vehicle must have functional brakes (hand brake, foot pedal brake) that remains functional throughout the event. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification.
- No dragging of feet “Fred Flintstone” style brakes.
- No boat anchors.
- No brakes that require contact with the road.
- Each vehicle must be HUMAN POWERED… with a driver and a pusher or puller. MAXIMUM 2 PEOPLE PER TEAM.
- No additional propulsion is permitted. This includes moveable weights, batteries, wind, solar, giant rubber bands, rocket engines and anything else that the judges determine to be an unfair advantage.
- Each vehicle MUST HAVE STEERING that is functional to the “driver.”
- Barrel must be all ballast.
- Driver must be adequately secured in place.
No automobile frames and axles will be permitted. - “Head First” driver/passenger positions will not be allowed due to a higher risk of injury.
- Each driver is required to wear a helmet that is secured to his or her head by a strap.
- At a minimum, helmets must meet bicycle helmet standards. (Full-face helmets are recommended.)
- Each driver and pusher must wear closed-toed shoes. (Other protective gear is also recommended.)
- NO registered racer is to consume alcohol until they have been eliminated from the event.
- NO cell phone use by pusher or driver during a race.
- The winner of a heat will be determined by the first barrel race car to cross the finish line by its FRONT WHEELS.
- Race officials have the right to disqualify anyone at any time.
- RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE RACE COMMITTEE.
- Race cars will be separated between 2-wheel (chariot style or bicycle style) and 2+ wheels styles (3-4).
- As a participating team, you and a partner will have the opportunity to PUSH or PULL your barrel racecar through our chicane course.
- You will get to compete head to head throughout the day in time trials and one-on-one races to see who runs away the grand prize!
- You will be competing for prizes, tickets to the Festival and the chance to be hailed as the Barrel Racing Champion.
- The cost to build each vehicle may not exceed $500.
- You KEEP your Barrel Race Car for future races and to brag of your great race adventure.
- Race car participants will be invited to opening night to show off their vehicles.
