TEMECULA’S COLORFUL FESTIVAL

FEATURES THE BEST OF THIS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WINE COUNTRY

TEMECULA, CA – Perhaps it’s that magical sensation of flight that infects the crowd as the colorful hot air balloons rise into luminous Temecula skies.  Some say they attend annually just for the premium wine; others the music.  No matter what brings 40,000 guests each year, the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival is a Southern California tradition and it returns June 4-6, 2010.

Through the 27-year history of the event, the Festival has been refined and enhanced into a three-day showcase of the Temecula Valley’s greatest assets. Mild summer temperatures cooled by an ocean breeze that sneaks its way through the Rainbow gap, provide the perfect climate for over 30 wineries. The Festival has more than 20 of those wineries pouring during the weekend. Wine tasting hours are Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Epicurean delights can be enjoyed in the Wine & Food Pairing pavilion Saturday and Sunday where local chefs match culinary treats with local wines. There is an additional charge for wine tasting and the wine and food pairing.

Held at the Lake Skinner Recreation Area and surrounded by the Shipley Preserve, the Festival’s park setting provides natural vistas whether flying aboard a hot air balloon, or planted on terra firma. Photographers revel in the visuals from dawn mass balloon ascensions to evening balloon glows.

The Festival kicks off Friday, June 4 at 5 p.m. with a country music concert on the main stage, arts and craft fair, wine tasting  and the luminescent extravaganza known as the  "Balloon Glow."  The Glow is created when balloon pilots synchronize igniting burners of the balloons.  The burner is what creates the “hot” in the air. Whether done to a musical beat or the crowd’s demand to “Glow,” the balloons appear to dance as they flicker and shine against the hues of dusk and nightfall. Held both Friday and Saturday nights around 8 p.m. (after dusk), the Glow is one of the most popular entertainment options of the Festival.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are spectacular at the Festival when colorful hot air balloons dot the pastel dawn skies of Temecula. The mass balloon ascension takes place between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. weather permitting. Guests are encouraged to arrive early as hot air balloons need the cool morning air to fly.

Concerts are held on two stages. Friday the Main Stage, sponsored by Pechanga Resort and Casino, features Jimmy Wayne, The Band Perry and Bomshel. The colorful balloon glow is conducted on the Wine Garden lawns and set to music. Saturday on the Main Stage Paul Rodgers headlines with alternative rock bands Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon as co-headliners. Saturday’s balloon glow opens and closes with Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz at the Wine Garden Stage. Sunday Spyro Gyra headlines on the Wine Garden stage while the WGAS freestyle motocross show is at the Main Stage. All concerts are included in the admission price.
